Blood and Water: Second Netflix African Original

On 11 May 2020, Netflix shared a teaser to the new upcoming African Original Series, Blood and Water. The teaser video was shared on Instagram under the @netflixsa and @bloodnwaternetflix accounts. This is the second African Original Series following Queen Sono starring Pearl Thusi which has been renewed for a second season.

The series is set around the surroundings of Parkhurst College, a prestigious private school in Cape Town. It centres on Puleng Khumalo (Ama Qamata), an intelligent 16-year-old with a big secret she is adamant on hiding. She coordinates her transfer to Parkhurst College on a mission to investigate the abduction of her long-lost sister whom she was separated from at birth.

The cast combines a variety of new, upcoming and legendary South African actors with Ama Qamata and Khosi Ngema as the leads. Other cast members include, Natasha Thahane, Gail Mabalane, Cindy Mahlangu, Thabang Molaba, Arno Greeff, Dillion Windvogel, Ryle De Morny, Getmore Sithole, Monique Rockman with Xolile Tshabalala, Sandi Schultz and Sello Maake ka Ncube.

Blood and Water has featured an amazing production team with one of South Africa’s most formidable female directors, Nosipho Dumisa. It is produced by Gambit Films, led by Bradley Joshua and Benjamin Overmeyer. Daryne Joshua and Travis Taute serve as co-directors and writers, with Simon Beesley as lead editor. Upon the release of its trailer, most Netflix fans compared the show to popular series such as, Riverdale and Elite.

Blood and Water will premiere on 20 May 2020 on Netflix.
