Five people have been murdered and 40 others arrested in a church hostage situation at the International Pentecostal Holiness Church in Zuurbekom, Johannesburg.
National Commissioner of Police, General Khehla John Sitole said in a statement that four people were found shot and torched in a car while the fifth one, who was identified as a security guard, was shot in his car while attempting to attend to the complaint.
Six people of those arested were taken to hospital and among the group of those arrested were members of SAPS, SANDF, JMPD and the Department of Coreectional Services. Sitole further mentioned that, more than 34 firearms including five rifles, 16 shot guns and 13 pistols were taken into law enforcement custody.
Sitole has tasked the provincial management to conclude the preliminary investigations as soon as possible to act on those tat were behind this attack.
